Scholarship Recipients

There are a wide variety of scholarships available to students looking to study abroad. While many of these scholarships are geared towards a particular location or student group, many are open to students studying on a wide variety of programs. Over the years, Loyola students have been awarded prestigious scholarships toward their study abroad program. We hope you join us in congratulating these students on their accomplishments.

2022-2023 Program Recipients
Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships

The Fund for Education Abroad awards scholarships of up to $10,000 to promising students with financial need who wish to study abroad on programs that run for at least 28 days. One Loyola student won this prestigious scholarship for their study abroad program in spring or summer 2021.

2021-2022 Program Recipients

Gilman Scholarship

Funded by the State Department, the Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 per student for study abroad. During the October 2021 application cycle, two Loyola students were awarded this prestigious scholarship to use on study abroad programs in upcoming terms.

	Emilia Murphy Loyola University Chicago: John Felice Rome Center, Spring 2022 Major: Biology, pre-dental "This will be the adventure of a lifetime. While abroad, I hope to experience the local culture of each country. I can't wait to try new foods and be surrounded by the local charm."
	Karina Rodriguez IES Abroad: Nice Multiculturalism and Immigration in the Mediterranean, Summer 2022 Major: Criminal Justice, minor: French "I hope to experience a new culture through immersion and find new interests a foreign country can offer. I am most looking forward to the homestay in Morocco!"

2020-2021 Program Recipients

Gilman Scholarship

Funded by the State Department, the Gilman Scholarship awards up to $5,000 per student for study abroad. During the March 2020 application cycle, six Loyola students were awarded this prestigious scholarship to use on study abroad programs in upcoming terms.

	Zughey Flores Spain, Spring 2021 Major: Psychology; Minor: Marketing "I am beyond excited that I get the opportunity to become completely immersed in a different environment and also have the chance to build on my heritage by learning more about my family’s history in Spain. What I am most looking forward to is meeting new people and making new friends!
	Sima Greebel Sophia University Exchange in Tokyo, Spring 2021 Major: Global & International Studies, minor: Japanese Language and Culture "I hope to experience a new culture and to practice and further improve my Japanese language skills. I'm most looking forward to meeting new people and experiencing things I've never experienced before."
	Sana Leebe SIT Jordan: Refugees, Health, and Humanitarian Action Major: Political Science and Global & International Studies "I hope to learn more about the refugee crisis, master the Arabic language and experience a new culture! I am most looking forward to Jordanian food and making new friends!"
	Mofe Ogunsola Loyola's John Felice Rome Center Major: Economics, minor: Information Systems and Political Science "I hope to develop my understanding and the context of the African refugee crisis in Italy. I'm most looking forward to making new friends and lifelong memories abroad!"

	Diandra Sarr SIT Senegal: Hip-hop, African Diaspora and Decolonial Futures, Spring 2021 Major: Anthropology, minor: French Language "I hope to learn more about my Senegal heritage and culture through the interesting courses they are offering, and I am looking forward to traveling to Africa for the very first time."
